Leadership under sustained load

Support for your wellbeing alongside the responsibilities of leadership.

Confidential psychotherapy for leaders facing difficult decisions, responsibility for others and few places to speak openly about how they are feeling.

Executive pattern

When keeping up as a leader takes more out of you

The concern is not simply a full calendar. It is the growing cognitive and emotional cost of holding complexity, exposure and consequence.

✓ Decisions require more recovery time
✓ Irritability or detachment enters leadership relationships
✓ Strategic thinking is crowded out by immediate demands

Executive load

What makes this role distinct

Executive burnout often develops through the interaction of cognitive load, exposure and leadership isolation.

Decision load

Too many consequential choices

Repeated high-stakes decisions reduce flexibility, patience and the ability to distinguish urgent from important.

Isolation

Limited places to be uncertain

The role may reward confidence while leaving little space to process doubt, fear or depletion.

Identity

Performance becomes self-protection

Competence and availability can become tied to credibility, making limits feel professionally dangerous.

Leadership dynamics

How the pattern sustains itself

These are not generic stressors; they are role-specific mechanisms that keep recovery from taking hold.

01

Complexity remains open

Strategic issues cannot be fully completed, so the mind continues working after the day ends.

02

Visibility discourages disclosure

Leaders may hide strain to protect confidence, authority or organizational stability.

03

Delegation feels costly

Transferring work may create short-term uncertainty, rework or perceived loss of control.

04

Recovery is treated as optional

Time not producing visible value is displaced until capacity is already compromised.

How therapy can help

Clearer decisions and workable boundaries

Therapy helps you explore the pressures affecting your health and leadership, and work towards changes that are realistic in your role.

Strategy

Restore decision quality

Make room to think, reduce mental overload and develop ways to step back from decisions once they are made.

Leadership

Work with responsibility and control

Differentiate accountable leadership from total psychological ownership of every outcome.

Boundaries

Set workable boundaries

Develop limits, delegation and communication that fit the realities of authority and organizational risk.

Putting therapy into practice

Concrete decisions and tools from treatment

Sessions move from insight to decisions in the situations that repeatedly generate load.

Board and stakeholder pressure

Stakeholder communication plan

Plan how to communicate limits, risk and incomplete information without over-functioning.

Delegation and succession

Delegation and decision-rights map

Identify what truly requires executive judgment and what can be transferred with tolerable risk.

Crisis cycles

Peak-demand recovery plan

Create rules for triage, recovery and re-entry so every surge does not become a new baseline.

Questions about seeking support

Questions you may have before starting

Will my employer or board know?

No information is shared without your consent except where required by law. The service is designed to support privacy for highly visible roles.

Does treatment undermine performance?

The aim is the opposite: to improve decision quality, flexibility and sustainable leadership rather than maximizing endurance.

Can this include role-transition decisions?

Yes. Treatment can support clearer thinking about staying, restructuring, delegating, leave or transition without prescribing a predetermined outcome.

Is this executive coaching?

No. It is psychotherapy focused on symptoms, functioning and clinical patterns, while still addressing the realities of executive work.

Take the next step in confidence

Leadership does not require waiting until judgment or health deteriorates.

Occupational burnout therapy is $275 per 60-minute session and includes a practical recovery plan focused on work-related patterns. Individual burnout therapy remains available at $170 when that service fits your needs. Enhanced sessions include a 60-minute appointment, up to 15 minutes of focused preparation and a brief written action plan. This option is agreed in advance and is available when that additional support is useful. Enhanced sessions are $350. We agree on the service and fee before booking.
